A Veterans Request

On this Veteran’s Day, I have a simple request: Make it Real.

Talk is cheap. Doing is more complicated.

Instead of just thanking a vet for his/her service, honor them. It could be as simple as purchasing them a cup of coffee. Take them to lunch. Spend 30 minutes listening to them. Make your words mean something more than a hollow good will gesture.

If you are religious, talk to them about hell. Many of us have seen it. Some, still live in it.

If you like weapons, well, chuckle, I don’t know a prior service member that can’t talk about that subject.

If you are ticked about the NFL, why don’t you spend time listening to a vet’s point of view. Remember, we earned the right for you to express your opinion. We would love to hear your point of view as well.

So, on this Veteran’s Day, which falls on a weekend, make it real. Follow your words up with action. Truly honor those that have dedicated their lives and blood to freedom and making this country the great country it is.

It truly was an honor to serve.
