According to the insurance company, I am permanently disabled.\u00a0 I’m split in my feelings.<\/p>\n
Over the last few weeks, I’ve worked towards acceptance that I may never return to work.\u00a0 To accept that my career has ended and that the medical community just won’t permanently get me back on my feet.<\/p>\n
I’ve thought about putting “As Good as It Gets” on auto-repeat on the TV for emotional support, but I’d rather watch Sigourney Weaver in the “Alien” series.<\/p>\n
I am retired.\u00a0 Against my desire.\u00a0 Wow.<\/p>\n
I have projects to do.\u00a0 Many.\u00a0 Some are really causing a stir.\u00a0 Being known as “The Hurricane Man” in a past life can be good for business when there are 2 and possibly 3 major storms back to back.<\/p>\n
When I was in the military, I really wanted to spend 30 years in and then retire.\u00a0 I joined when I was 19.\u00a0 I would have be 49.\u00a0 I’m turning 49 tomorrow (Sep. 6th).\u00a0 It is really strange how things we say early in life come back to haunt us.\u00a0 In a way, I met my goal of retiring before I was 50.\u00a0 I’ve done a lot in my days.\u00a0 I still have many of them left.<\/p>\n
I am looking at hosting websites and internet services in my time off.<\/p>\n
I’ve amassed a rather remarkable skill-set.\u00a0 I am a military-trained lock-pick, among other more shady things.\u00a0 I’ve done things that would put civilian in prison for a long time, with court orders to do so.\u00a0 I’ve had death threats and spies chasing me.<\/p>\n
I’ve got three beautiful daughters and a robust step-son.<\/p>\n
My wife loves me, most of the time.<\/p>\n
I didn’t think I had friends.\u00a0 It comes out, I didn’t know what friends were.\u00a0 They are there for you even when you don’t think they are.\u00a0 They remind you of who you are when you are lost.\u00a0 They defend you when you are attacked. Cook dinner for you when your wife is about to kill you.\u00a0 Shuttle you around town like they are happy to wait for you at the doctor’s.<\/p>\n
Of all the lessons I’ve learned in the last 10 months, the most important is the meaning of friends and why you have them.<\/p>\n
I am going to be Ole Kinderhook.\u00a0 Tomorrow is my re-Birthday.\u00a0 I start a new era.\u00a0 With the grace of God, the love of my wife and kids, and the help of 1\/2 million friends, I can’t be otherwise.<\/p>\n
