There are three approvals to be received before having a DNA test for Kennedy’s Disease (SBMA).\u00a0 The doctor, the insurance company and the lab.<\/p>\n
The doctor jumped on-board immediately.\u00a0 He used the templated request from the lab performing the test.<\/p>\n
I just got the letter in the mail from the insurance company saying they agree that it is a medical necessity!<\/p>\n
I just called my wife and hyperventilated.<\/p>\n
We are a huge step closer to getting a yes\/no answer.<\/p>\n
I do have to say, as a mathematician, the odds of me, or anyone, developing SBMA is next to impossible.\u00a0 However, it is still possible.<\/p>\n
I have failed test for many other diseases and mutations. Yet, my disease still progresses.\u00a0 I almost pray for a “yes.”\u00a0 But, the receipt of a “yes” means my progeny, and possibly my nephews, are in danger.\u00a0 It is definitely a double-edged sword.<\/p>\n
Man, I feel like a load has been lifted.<\/p>\n
One more step.\u00a0 One more step.<\/p>\n
