I wish everyone a Happy New Year! I know it will be a great one for my family and me.<\/p>\n
Looking back on 2017, it would be easy to say that it will go down in the annals of Jay C. Theriot as the worse year yet.\u00a0 But, I think it actually may have been one of the best.<\/p>\n
I learned what friends were.\u00a0 I have many, very caring people around me.\u00a0 They are not the people I thought they were.<\/p>\n
I learned a new definition of family.\u00a0 Although this caused me much pain at first, I am adjusting and I feel much better and happy with my new definition.<\/p>\n
I learned that I defined myself by my employment, that is no longer the case.\u00a0 I’m still not sure who “Jay C. Theriot” is.\u00a0 I’m hoping that in 2018 I can find him.\u00a0 I know Christ is constantly over his shoulder, pointing him in the direction he should go (but he doesn’t listen all the time).<\/p>\n
I learned a much deeper appreciation for the gifts we are given.\u00a0 The beauty of a male cardinal in the snow, squirrels eating basil, the undying dedication of my puppies; all are things I did not respect or expect to touch me so.<\/p>\n
Words cannot express how I feel about my wife and my mother-in-law.\u00a0 These two women keep me alive.\u00a0 We don’t always see eye-to-eye, but, they are profound.<\/p>\n
The spasticity will remain with me until the end.\u00a0 I have accepted this and am working to learn how to live with it.\u00a0 Learning methods to live with my disease remains my biggest challenge.\u00a0 But, with the help of Christ, family, friends, and pups, I am confident that not only will I survive, but I will thrive.<\/p>\n
