{"id":1536,"date":"2018-09-13T14:37:09","date_gmt":"2018-09-13T19:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journey.jayctheriot.com\/?p=1047"},"modified":"2018-09-13T14:37:09","modified_gmt":"2018-09-13T19:37:09","slug":"utensil-solution-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayscafe.net\/?p=1536","title":{"rendered":"Utensil Solution!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>#KennedysDisease #SBMA #Success #ExtremeSpasticity, #AcceptanceWithoutSurrender<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As many neuro-muscular patients can attest, holding onto eating utensils provides an embarrassing challenge.\u00a0 The normal solution is to get utensils with oversized handles.\u00a0 It seems that all of the solutions must use colors that a blind person could see from a mile away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine you are in a restaurant.\u00a0 You are already calling attention to yourself because of the severe lack of coordination, or that you are using a mobility device.\u00a0 So, now, it&#8217;s time to eat and you have high-intensity eating utensils.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t add much in the positive to the ambience of the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My wife and a mechanically inclined friend developed a solution:\u00a0 1\/2 acrylic tubing, placed over the handle of my utensils.\u00a0 The tubing is clear and thus can barely be seen unless you are looking at it.\u00a0 I have a problem with gripping things two hard.\u00a0 The tubing provides flex and feedback.
