{"id":1535,"date":"2018-08-31T06:07:43","date_gmt":"2018-08-31T11:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/journey.jayctheriot.com\/?p=1032"},"modified":"2018-08-31T06:07:43","modified_gmt":"2018-08-31T11:07:43","slug":"ms-hug-an-additional-theory-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayscafe.net\/?p=1535","title":{"rendered":"MS Hug &amp; An Additional Theory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>#KennedysDisease #SBMA #Success #ExtremeSpasticity, #AcceptanceWithoutSurrender<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a name for a symptom and an theory on the mechanics leading up to the spasms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>MS Hug<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many times, my chest muscles tighten, as if I would be bound, making it difficult to breathe.\u00a0 This symptom is referred to as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/multiple-sclerosis\/ms-hug-how-ease-pain#1\">&#8220;MS Hug&#8221; as described in this article from WebMD:\u00a0 MS Hug<\/a>.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I am doing all the right things to treat it.\u00a0 But, we have a name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>Hypotheses on the mechanics leading to a spasm<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After careful watching of my body and help from some friends from California in the Kennedy&#8217;s Disease Patient Group, I have come to this hypothesis:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The nerves trigger the muscles to begin tightening<\/li><li>The stiffening of the muscles trigger twitching.<\/li><li>Lactic acid builds up in the muscles.\u00a0 <\/li><li>The build up of lactic acid triggers small contortions.\u00a0 These happen globally.<\/li><li>Untreated, the acid begins to build up and triggers a huge cramp.\u00a0 This series of cramps destroy muscle tissue.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, the thought was that I was spasming.\u00a0 However, in a conversation with another KD patient, he said other KD patients reported that cramping receded over time.\u00a0 His use of the classification of &#8220;cramping&#8221; was the beginning of this line of thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One big question I was trying to answer is &#8220;why does the BCAA drink stop the spasms so quickly?&#8221;\u00a0 I believe the answer to be this:\u00a0 They are not spasms, they are cramps.\u00a0 The difference is that spasms are triggered by the neurological system.\u00a0 Cramping is started by the amount of lactic acid affecting the muscle. Thus, the nerves trigger the tightness causing lactic acid build up causing cramps.\u00a0 Not, nerves trigger cramps.\u00a0 The BCAA attacks the lactic acid and deprives the muscles ability to cramp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hypothesis would explain why I still have muscle tightness, but no spasms when taking the BCAA.\u00a0 The muscles still take a hit from the tightness, but not as severe as cramps. Additionally, it would explain why the BCAA works.\u00a0 The BCAA is not attacking the nerves, it is attacking the lactic acid, as it is made to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are making strides.\u00a0 I have &#8220;With a little help from my friends&#8221; going through my head.\u00a0 The verse should be &#8220;With a LOT of help from my friends&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are going to figure this thing out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Christ,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jay C. \u201cJazzy_J\u201d Theriot<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jay C.
