{"id":115,"date":"2014-08-03T04:47:42","date_gmt":"2014-08-03T10:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jayctheriot.com\/bbs\/?p=115"},"modified":"2014-08-03T04:47:42","modified_gmt":"2014-08-03T10:47:42","slug":"time-wont-give-me-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayscafe.net\/?p=115","title":{"rendered":"Time won&#8217;t give me time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We live in an instant world. \u00a0We expect things quickly, and for the most part, we get them quickly. \u00a0Thus, our attitude is one of impatience.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, I had experience with the bad end of this attitude. \u00a0I had a system running undocumented, unsupported software and the client wanted it &#8220;now.&#8221; \u00a0The end result is that the client now has a fully functional documented system. \u00a0However, as they say, sometimes it is the journey, not the destination that counts.<\/p>\n<p>I invested over 30 hours into this system. \u00a0I built virtual machines for testing, talked to non-contract people and convinced them to give me information that they had no requirement to give. \u00a0I had to build the system from base install CDs so that I had complete control of the operating system. \u00a0The thanks I get? \u00a0Probably a letter in my folder saying I took too long, and people angry because I put off other projects to address this unit.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, I keep on. \u00a0No data was lost on this system. \u00a0It is now running better than before. \u00a0Sometimes &#8220;all&#8217;s well that ends well&#8221; is a goal or a myth. \u00a0At the moment, I&#8217;m not sure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We live in an instant world. \u00a0We expect things quickly, and for the most part, we get them quickly. \u00a0Thus, our attitude is one of impatience.
