Protocol

As a patient that has considerable issues with spasticity and egregious spasms resulting in pulled and sometimes torn muscles, I am very happy to report that I have found a protocol that considerably helps stop the spasms as well as expedites healing.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor, this is not a clinical trial. The Abort! Protocol is a method that my wife, friends and I have found, through research and observation, that dramatically helps with spasms and the resulting damage to the muscles. Your results could vary wildly.

The components of the protocol are these:
1) BCAA drinks
2) High protein shakes
3) Electrolyte drinks
4) Creatine

As early as onset symptoms occur, prepare and drink a BCAA with haste. Follow up with a second BCAA drink, consumed at a normal pace. The BCAA drinks have repeatedly stopped the most severe spasms wrecking my body once consumed. At this point, my body is usually considerably fatigued and I sleep.

When I awake, I consume a protein shake containing 25g of protein and a teaspoon of creatine to help repair the damage. I continue to consume 25g protein/creatine shakes at the rate of two or three per day until the muscles are repaired. This will generally continue for three to four days. I generally maintain drinking at least one 25g protein a day afterward. In my case, my muscles continuously spasm, and minor damage is incurred continuously. You may find that you don’t need as much protein as I. There are potential harmful side-effects of ingesting excessive amounts of protein. In my case, it’s my choice of evils. Protein poisoning is preferable to the continued pain from the muscles.

Electrolyte drinks help stave off the minor muscle contortions. I find they are effective for about 45 minutes. My choice is Gatorade mixed from powder as it can be found quite cheaply in bulk.

The Abort! Protocol is a name my wife and I came up with. Abort! is attributed to her, as she felt the key was the BCAA that caused my body to “abort” the horrible spasms. The “Protocol” bit is mine as I feel that the continuing use of the protein drinks to repair the damaged muscles in preparation for the next attack is considerably important.

My results are as such: Prior to using the protocol, my recovery time would be in the weeks for an attack. The attacks would overlap the recovery time. The resulting pain would completely destroy me. With the protocol, I have been able to shorten the recovery time considerably on two fronts: 1) by depriving the spasms the ability to repetitively inflict considerable damage on the muscle tissue, and 2) providing accelerated healing of the tissue in preparation for the next attack.

This has aided in the increase of my quality of life. Be it known, that the underlying issues causing my extreme spasticity, continue. I still have issues with “MS Hug,” knotted muscles, gait imbalance and a myriad of other issues. However, the pain and destruction resulting from the massive spasms are minimized. For that I am eternally grateful.

I hope that this protocol helps you. I must note that the protein mixes I prefer are from GNC’s ” Sustained Protein Blend” line of products. Ordering them with Amazon Prime helps me considerably as I generally am limited in mobility. GNC’s like of BCAA drinks are great as well, however, I have found cheaper alternatives. The GNC protein has a superior taste and mix considerably better with a glass-sized vortex blender. I use the vortex blender because shaking drinks are impossible for me when the spasms are going on as well as after the damage has occurred.

I stay away from sports drinks like “Monster” and “Red Bull” as they contain other ingredients that can conflict with the number of other maintenance medications I am prescribed. I try to keep it as simple as I possibly can.

Thanks, and God Bless,

Jay C. “Jazzy_J” Theriot

Jay C.
